Creating art outdoors is a great way to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and explore your creative side. As parents and caregivers, we want to allow our kids to explore and express their creativity, and making art outdoors can be a great way to do that. This post will showcase what supplies we use in our nature-based programs to make sure we can make art anywhere we go! We will also showcase how we store these supplies to make them as portable as possible.

The Set Up
We set up our nature art kit using a photo keeper container. We find this system allows us to store a large variety of supplies in a way that we can bring everything along in one convenient container, or only bring along a few supplies for a specific project. We have been using this system in our program for 2 years and it is still going strong! You can find the container we use here.
The Supplies
We fill our kit with a large variety of supplies, keep in mind the kits don't fit full-sized markers/ pencils/ or pencil crayons so we opt for short versions of these items which are linked below. We also sometimes rotate the supplies available in the kit to shake things up. It's also important to consider the ages and interests of the children who will be utilizing the kit. Here is a list of ideas of what to add into your kit!
Crayons
Watercolour Paper (if you cut the paper into 4x6 pieces it will fit into the containers)
Scissors
Punches
Ribbon Scraps
Oil Pastels
Scrap Paper/ Construction Paper
Sharpies
Pencils
Beads
Pom Poms
Pipe Cleaners
Watercolour Crayons
Fabric Scraps
Using Your Kit!
Once you have your kit full of supplies you can bring it along on lots of adventures. The handle makes it easy to carry for short walks, or for longer adventures it easily fits in a stroller or wagon. For extra long off-road adventures place just the containers you need or want inside a backpack for easy travel. Pair your kit with a waterproof picnic blanket, and/or some clipboards to take your creating to the next level. Now you have a full kit ready to take on adventures with children to ensure you have the ability to create anywhere you go.
